Croatia: Brodosplit and MAN Diesel & Turbo Sign Licence Extension Agreement

On behalf of the MAN Diesel & Turbo, Thomas Knudsen and Klaus Engberg, leaders of the MAN Diesel & Turbo for licensing of manufacturers of two-stroke marine engines and on behalf of Brodosplit, Baldo Butirić, Director of Brodosplit-TDM, signed the papers for the manufacture of 2-stroke marine engines. This continues the long-term production of MAN 2-stroke main engines in Brodosplit shipyard started back in 1967.

The extension of licence agreement Brodosplit confirms current right to manufacture 2-stroke diesel engines and it covers the entire engine portfolio of MAN, which occupy as 82 % of the world market. Also, by these agreement, and Croatian entry into the European Union, the license territory of Brodosplit marine engines manufacturers spread throughout Europe.

Currently Brodosplit is producing engines of the smallest S35 ME of 4350 kW to biggest K98 ME of 84 280 kW per engine, primarily propulsion engines of large cargo ships. Today due to the signed a license agreement it is possible to produce a new types of advanced engines, such as electronic MC-E engine, but also all those that will be developed during the period of the license agreement. The desirability of the new types of engines is particularly significant for 2-stroke engine designed for stationary installation, which also included by the license agreement. It is about engines modified for diesel power plants that can use different types of fuel (diesel, gas, dual fuel: gas-diesel, palm oil, etc.).

At a time when shipyards adapt their production program/range with new types of ships, some of which are driven by 2-stroke diesel engines, in which there is necessary of growing of new energy sources, are opening new possibilities of application for these engines.
