Denmark: Transition Pieces Installation Underway at Anholt Offshore Wind Farm

On arrival at Aalborg, the vessel Jumbo Javelin started loading transition pieces at Bladt Industries on 13 April 2012, and already on 16 April the first transition piece was placed on the monopile in the wind farm.

The transition piece is cast onto the monopile by means of special concrete. The transition secures that the wind turbine position is 100 per cent vertical and includes boat landing, ladders, internal and external work platforms and cable ducts for the submarine cables.

Jumbo Javelin is a so-called DP vessel, which by means of computers, manoeuvrability and engine power is capable of automatically maintaining the vessel position which makes it suitable for installation of the transition pieces.

Each transition piece weighs approximately 170 tonnes, and Jumbo Javelin is capable of carrying nine transition pieces at a time from Aalborg to the wind farm.

As of 1 May 2012, 50 monopiles and 10 transition pieces was installed.
