Depail Re-Elected as GIE President

Jean-Claude Depail, Executive Vice-President of GDF SUEZ in charge of the Infrastructures business line, has been re-elected President of Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) for a two-year term by the General Meeting of GIE, which met in Krakow on May 24 and 25, 2012 for its 10th annual conference.

GIE, which has 70 members in twenty-five countries, represents the interests of gas storage and transmission operators and LNG terminal operators. The association voices the views of its members to European bodies, regulators (ACER, CEER, etc.) and other stakeholders.

On the occasion of his re-appointment, Jean-Claude Depail stated: “It is a great honor for me to have been re-elected President of GIE. The future holds many challenges for us. We have to reinforce the promotion of natural gas even further, and convince legislators that a more gas-based economy is a less carbon-heavy economy. We also have to offer them viable technical solutions for the set-up of a single gas market in Europe that is competitive, sustainable and provides supply security.

Created in 2002, GIE is an independent, not-for-profit association that represents its members to European bodies: European Commission, European Parliament and associations of regulators (ACER, CEER, etc.) its head office is located in Brussels.

GIE is the umbrella organization for its three divisions:

  • GTE – Gas Transmission Europe: represents the interests of transmission operators
  • GSE – Gas Storage Europe: represents the interests of storage operators
  • GLE – Gas LNG Europe: represents the interests of LNG terminal operators
