Diver Dies After Accident in Norwegian Yard

A 22-year-old diver from Karmoy, Norway died on Friday after being critically injured during maintenance work underwater on a platform at Westcon’s shipyard in Ølensvåg.

Last Wednesday, the Norwegian media reported the diving-related incident when the seriously injured diver arrived at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen.

According to reports the diver ran out of air after getting stuck underwater and was unconscious when he was taken to the hospital.

The diver, was employed in AD Offshore, a supplier of Westcon Yards.

“This is a moment of great sadness. It is a deeply tragic accident and our thoughts go out to his family and others close to him,” says Øystein Matre, CEO of Westcon Yards in Ølensvåg.

“He was a skilled working colleague with his whole career in front of him. Our focus is now to assist the bereaved and his working colleagues with whatever need they may have,” Matre added.
