Divex Recognised for COBRA at Elevator Awards

As their new bailout rebreather COBRA nears availability, the team at Divex are recognised for their innovation at the annual Elevator Awards.

COBRA (Compact Bailout Rebreathing Apparatus) is developed by the Divex design team in Aberdeen to respond to an urgent safety requirement in the world’s saturation diving industry. The system provides extended emergency breathing gas to stranded saturation divers in an emergency scenario, the company explained.

Mike Howarth, Managing Director at Divex says:

“I’m immensely proud of what the team has achieved. COBRA is a massive leap forward in technology and is the embodiment of our commitment to subsea safety. Our Engineers have doubled emergency life support, without increasing weight or size.

“Our Designers have made COBRA easier to operate and maintain than ever before and our Testing & Operations teams have worked tirelessly to ensure COBRA’s patented design is as reliable as our customers demand.

“It’s this coming together of disciplines, this large-scale teamwork that makes revolutionary products like COBRA possible. And it’s what sets Divex brand equipment apart from the rest of the industry.”

The set has been designed to provide up to 45 minutes of fully independent breathing gas to allow the diver to return to the safety of the bell. This is a significant improvement on conventional bailout methods, such as scuba which at certain depths can only provide 7 minutes of breathing gas, Divex noted.

COBRA is expected to be available to customers in the last quarter of 2015.

The aim of the Elevator Awards is to encourage enterprise by selecting and rewarding businesses and individuals within Grampian who can help lead to the future prosperity of the region.
