Double Cruise Ship Launch at Fincantieri

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri launched two cruise ships from its shipyards in Monfalcone and Ancona this Thursday.

Carnival Vista, the new flagship of the Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet, brand of the Carnival Group, was launched in Monfalcone.

With a weight of 133,500 gross tons and 321 meters in length, Carnival Vista is the largest ship Fincantieri has ever built for the Carnival Cruise Line. It has 1,967 passenger and 785 crew cabins, enough to accommodate more than 6,400 passengers and staff.

The second cruise ship Fincantieri launched yesterday in Ancona was Viking Sea, the second of three ships Fincantieri is building for Viking Ocean Cruises.

Viking Star, the first ship in the series, was delivered back in March, and Fincantieri has already started working on the third ship – Viking Sky – scheduled for delivery in 2017.

Viking Sea, like its two sister ships, will be placed in the small cruise ship segment. With a gross tonnage of about 47,800 tons, it will have 465 cabins designed to accommodate for 930 passengers.

Both Carnival Vista and Viking Sky will now undergo interior fittings, and are scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2016.

Fincantieri currently has 14 ships under construction at its shipyards.
