DP Energy Joins Ocean Energy Europe Board

DP Energy has joined the board of Ocean Energy Europe, the trade association for ocean renewable energy in Europe, as a lead sponsor. The Irish tidal developer has been central to the push which has taken ocean energy to the brink of deploying pilot farms in recent years. They will now bring this experience to bear at EU level.

With a background in wind energy development, DP Energy has developed 215MW of built wind energy projects with a further 119MW fully consented. Recently, it has taken this experience into the tidal energy sector and is developing several utility scale projects in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Following its acquisition of the Westray South project from SSE, DP Energy’s tidal stream portfolio stands at an impressive 330MW.

“Having very experienced wind energy developers involved is a real win for the sector and DP Energy’s vision and ambition is just what we need right now. We now look forward to working with them to help get the first ocean energy arrays in the water in the coming years,” said Dr Sian George, CEO of Ocean Energy Europe.

“DP Energy is committed to delivering marine energy projects and is delighted to be working with Ocean Energy Europe and the key ocean renewable industry members to help deliver together what will be a significant and key part of the sustainable energy future for Europe,” Simon De Pietro, Chief Executive Officer of DP Energy said.

The announcement comes ahead of the meeting of Europe’s key ocean energy decision makers in Dublin at the SI Ocean Final Conference and the second Ocean Energy Forum meeting on 10th-11th June.
