The shipbuilding contract, which is the first gas carrier order under DSME’s new CEO Lee Sung-Keun, was signed by the parties on April 9.

The deal would see the shipbuilder construct the 174,000 cbm carrier at its Geoje Okpo Shipyard and deliver the unit to its owners by the first quarter of 2022.

So far this year, DSME secured a combined USD 1.3 billion worth of orders. The builder’s 2019 orderbook includes four LNG carriers, all of which were contracted by Maran Gas Maritime.

DSME further said that it is in discussions for additional LNG carrier orders with the company, adding that it expects more such contracts to be signed in the future.

Greece-based Maran Gas Maritime contracted the previous three LNG carriers at the shipyard in February.
