Dual-fuel ethane carrier “Navigator Aurora” delivered

Shipping company Navigator Gas said it has recently taken the delivery of its dual-fuel ethane carrier Navigator Aurora.

The Navigator Aurora was delivered to the owner at Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai, China on August 2.

According to Navigator Gas, the ethane carrier is capable to sail both on diesel fuel and liquefied natural gas (LNG).

With a length of 180 m, the newly-built Navigator Aurora has a total cargo tank size of 35,000 cbm and can hold ethane loads of up to 20,000 tonnes, making it the “biggest ethane-capable vessel serving the global market,” according to Navigator Gas.

The Navigator Aurora has been chartered for a minimum of 10 years to the European chemical group Borealis to transport ethane from the U.S. East Coast to Europe, with commercial operations scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2016.
