Dutch Government Prolongs Offshore Wind Licenses

Minister Joop Atsma announced that the Dutch government has prolonged the license for the development of offshore wind farms until 2020, reports Dutch News.

The licensees for the nine companies that are developing offshore wind farms where due to expire this year.

The Dutch government set targets to install the 6 GW offshore wind capacity by 2020.

There are currently two Dutch offshore wind farms producing a total of 228 megawatts:

  • Near Shore Windpark lies off the coast of Egmond aan Zee. It has 36 turbines and a total output of 108 megawatt.
  • Prinses Amalia windfarm lies off IJmuiden, with 60 turbines and a total output of 120 megawatts.
