ENAP in LNG Supply Talks

Chile’s ENAP is negotiating a long-term natural gas supply contract to a power generating facility, said the country’s president Michelle Bachelet, reports Platts.

Michelle Bachelet said that the gas from Quintero regasification terminal in Chile would allow the partial operation of a combined cycle plant in the region.

Chilean government is encouraging the use of LNG in an effort to increase electricity supplies and lower the cost.

Speaking at an energy industry dinner ENAP CEO Marcelo Tokman said that he contract is being negotiated for 1.1 Mcm/day of natural gas.

Bachelet, on the other hand, is reported saying that transferring a part of ENAP’s regasification capacity at the terminal to the generator company will promote open access to Quintero. She also added that Quintero expansion works are to be concluded next year with ENAP already promoting a further capacity expansion to 20 Mcm/d. Details will be released this year.
