Eneco Books Fryslân Power

Dutch energy company Eneco has signed an agreement with Windpark Fryslân to purchase all the power generated at the Fryslân nearshore wind farm in the Netherlands for a period of 15 years.

The Fryslân wind farm will produce 1,500 GWh of energy annually. To use the power as locally as possible, companies and organizations in the province of Fryslân are given the opportunity to purchase the power, Eneco said.

This power purchase agreement (PPA) is the largest ever that Eneco concluded with a Dutch wind farm.

Anne de Groot, Project Director of Fryslân Wind Farm, said: ”Energy supplier Eneco is an active pioneer in the field of sustainable energy in the Netherlands. Eneco works together with consumers and companies on the energy transition in our country. That policy is in line with the ambitions of Windpark Fryslân and the province of Fryslân, which intends to take a minority interest in the wind farm.”

The Fryslân nearshore wind farm is currently being built in the IJsselmeer, about 6 kilometers from the Frisian IJsselmeer coast, near the Afsluitdijk.

The wind farm comprises 89 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines with a total capacity of 382.7MW scheduled to be operational in 2021.
