Energy Minister Becomes Keynote Speaker at Oil & Gas UK Awards

UK Energy Minister, Charles Hendry MP, has been announced as the keynote speaker at the UK oil and gas industry’s annual showcase awards ceremony.

Mr Hendry will address around 600 attendees at the Oil & Gas UK Awards on 8 November and present each of the winners with their prizes on the night.

The event, sponsored by Shell U.K. Limited, is one of the biggest in the industry calendar, where people and companies across the entire length and breadth of the oil and gas industry vie to prove they have what it takes to be crowned among the very best.

With a deadline of 10 August, there is still a month to go to submit nominations.

Entrants are sought across the five categories, two of which (Overall Excellence and Young Technician of the Year) recognise young people who have shone early in their careers. Another award (Mentoring) goes to the more experienced individuals who are helping to develop young and less experienced employees so that they may take on future challenges.

As well as these awards for individuals, two accolades are given to companies. One (People Development) is given in recognition of a company’s efforts in developing its staff, while the other (Business Efficiency) rewards streamlined working and sustainability.

Oil & Gas UK’s chief executive Malcolm Webb said: “I’m very pleased to announce that the UK’s Energy Minister, Charles Hendry MP, will be our guest of honour this year and we greatly look forward to welcoming him to the Oil & Gas UK Awards ceremony in Aberdeen in November.

“We’re looking for the talented individuals and companies which make up this great industry of ours to come forward and help us tell their uplifting stories and give them the recognition they deserve. There is still time to nominate yourself, a colleague or your company for an Oil & Gas UK Award.

“The event itself is always a warm and encouraging occasion and the 2012 Awards promise to maintain that tradition as well as providing a valuable networking opportunity. This year we confidently expect to break the attendance record again as the popularity of the evening continues to grow.”
