Energy Minister of Indonesia Suggests Smaller LNG Tankers

Rudi Rubiandini, Indonesia’s deputy energy minister, presenting at the ONS energy conference in Stavanger, Norway, said there could be benefits to smaller LNG tankers, according to Platts.

Rubiandini also called for widespread developments of small-scale nuclear power generators. He said that could be a solution to future global energy needs.

Other speakers focused more on the importance of technological improvements and natural gas.

Indonesia wants to change its energy mix from current 49.7% oil, 24.5% coal, 20.1% gas and 5.7% renewables to 20% oil, 33% coal, 30% gas and 17% renewables by 2025.

Rubiandini later noted that “smaller” LNG tankers could also be a good idea, but he didn’t provide the details on the idea.

Smaller LNG tankers could bring gas to more isolated regions, such as islands, and could be a useful way of delivering gas in countries like Indonesia.
