ENGIE Fabricom

ENGIE Fabricom will be upgrading the Butendiek OHVS SCADA system from SICAM® 230 to Zenon from COPA-DATA. The upgrade is being carried out in order to comply with new Cyber Security Rules (IEC 62443) and improve the operation and maintenance performance of the Butendiek offshore substation.

The project scope shall include SCADA upgrade with the goal of virtualizing the SCADA and supporting ICT servers, upgrading network equipment, expanding the backup and restoring functionalities, upgrading the meteorological system software, and a five-year SLA on the new future-proof Zenon SCADA solution.

The SCADA upgrade will be executed between the second quarter and the fourth quarter of 2020 by ENGIE Fabricom in collaboration with Tractebel, and the SLA will commence in May 2020.

The Butendiek offshore substation collects electricity generated by the wind turbines at the Butendiek offshore wind farm, transforms the turbine output voltage from 33 kV to 155 kV, before sending the electricity to TenneT’s SylWin converter station.

The 288 MW Butendiek offshore wind farm comprises 80 Siemens SWT 3.6-120 turbines located some 32 kilometres west of the island of Sylt.

The wind farm has been operating at full capacity since the summer of 2015.
