Engie to build Antwerp LNG bunkering station

French utility and LNG player Engie has been granted concession by the Antwerp Port Authority to build and operate the LNG bunkering station for barges. 

According to a statement by the port authority, Engie will use a site at quay 526-528 to build the bunkering station.

The concession has been granted for a period of 30 years, starting on October 1.

The construction of the bunkering facility will make LNG “permanently available in the port of Antwerp,” the port authority said.

Truck-to-ship bunkering has been available at the Belgian port since 2012, however, first seagoing vessel, the Sefarina, bunkered at the Port of Antwerp on September 2015.

It is expected that the LNG bunkering facility will become operational in 2017.
