Eni prolongs flotel use on Goliat

Eni Norge AS has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) to extend the use of the Floatel Superior, an accommodation and construction support vessel, on the Goliat field, in the Barents Sea.

Namely, in April 2015, Eni received consent from the PSA to use the Floatel Superior as flotel on the Goliat field until September 30, 2015.

According to the PSA, on the basis of an updated schedule for the project and Eni’s application submitted on August 31, 2015, the safety authority has granted Eni consent to extend the use of the flotel until November 30, 2015.

The Goliat field, the first offshore oil development in Norway’s Arctic region, was originally scheduled to start in 2013. Back in August, the company said it was preparing to start oil production in a few weeks after years of delay. However, the production from the field is still being stalled.

The Floatel Superior was built at the Keppel FELS shipyard in Singapore and completed in March 2010.

Goliat is an oil field located around 50 kilometres south-east of the Snøhvit field in the Barents Sea. Water depth in the area is 360-420 metres.
