ENN’s LNG import terminal project delayed

The proposed 3 mtpa LNG import terminal, owned by independent gas distributor ENN of China, has been delayed.

As sources reveal, following the approval for construction ENN received in January, the company has now delayed the commissioning of the project fro late 2017 or 2018, reports Platts. The sources, however, did not reveal the reason for the delay.

As China’s LNG imports growth halved compared to the previous years, 10.3% up on 2013 the infrastructure has remained underutilized. The source noted that adding more import facilities would only result in more underutilization.

Lower demand has also contributed to the underutilization of China’s import facilities as the average rate for the utilization of the 12 LNG import terminals in China stood at 55.2% in 2014.

ENN is reportedly looking for one cargo per quarter in 2015 to cover the demand in Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces in the eastern China.
