ENSM Inaugurates VTS Simulator

The National Maritime College of France Ecole Nationale Supérieure Maritime (ENSM) officially inaugurated its state-of the-art VTS Simulator delivered and installed by the Transas Marine. New VTS Simulation Suite meets all relevant requirements stated by the IALA recommendation V-103 on Standards for Training and Certification of VTS Personnel.

The ceremony took place at the ENSM premises in the presence of Hervé Moulinier, President of the ENSM, François Marendet, General Director, ENSM, Cyrille Le Camus, Director of the ENSM site in Marseille and was attended by representatives from the Transas Mediterranean.

The VTS Simulator installed at the ENSM utilises the latest Transas Vessel Traffic Management Software and Transas Seagull 6000 visualisation system to provide the most realistic and accurate environment during the exercises. The facilities are split in 2 rooms with one workstation for supervisor who will be able to set up, design and modify exercises in one of them, and 3 workstations for trainees in the second room.

The simulated exercises demonstrated during the opening ceremony, represented events likely to be experienced in a real VTS centre. First VTS training courses at ENSM are scheduled to take place in January 2014 and will include theoretical and hands-on sessions for VTS professionals as well as for trainees with no prior experience.

The ENSM consists of four sites located in Marseille, Saint-Malo, le Havre and Nantes. It offers modern, fully equipped teaching facilities to provide higher education and degree-level training programs in maritime area.
