EUROGATE to Exhibit at Transrussia 2013

EUROGATE will have a presence at Transrussia 2013, the major transport exhibition taking place in Moscow from 23 to 26 April 2013. The container terminal group will accompany its partner NCC at its stand.

The company will focus on marketing Germany’s only deep-water container port, the EUROGATE Container Terminal in Wilhelmshaven. Wilhelmshaven is the most easterly deep-water port of all the North Sea ports. Its optimum geographical and nautical position makes it particularly suitable as a hub for cargo destined for Russia and the Baltic States. The shipping company Seago operates a weekly feeder service from here to St. Petersburg. In Russia, EUROGATE has a 20% stake in the Ust-Luga Container Terminal (ULCT), located 100 km west of St. Petersburg. Like the EUROGATE Container Terminal in Wilhelmshaven, the Ust-Luga Container Terminal is a start-up project. The terminal is managed by NCC, Russia’s largest container terminal operator. NCC and EUROGATE are closely linked in a knowledge exchange initiative and are intent on building valuable synergies. Given the importance of the Russian Baltic sea ports for Germany as a maritime location, it is important for EUROGATE to have a reliable local partner like NCC in the region.

The growing Russian economy is hugely important for Germany’s North Sea ports. The Baltic Sea ports recorded high growth rates last year. After Europe, Asia and America are the biggest shipping routes for the Bremerhaven container terminals. With its Russian and Scandinavian ports, the Baltic region has a share of just over 30% of this trade. In the case of the EUROGATE Terminal in Hamburg, Europe comes in second place after Asia. The Baltic region has a share of just over 10% of the European shipping route. The German North Sea ports are an important hub for cargo that is shipped from overseas to Russia.

Meetings with Russian logistics providers and forwarders will be a priority at the Transrussia exhibition.
