ExxonMobil to Use New Subsea Facilities on Balder Field (Norway)

ExxonMobil has received consent to use six new subsea wells on the Balder field.

ExxonMobil is the operator on the Balder field, located in the central part of the North Sea, approx. 190 km west of Stavanger. The field is developed with subsea wells that are tied in to the Balder FPU mobile living quarters and production facility.

Production on Balder started in 1999 and the original plan called for shutdown in 2011. As a result of the Ringhorne field being tied in to Balder FPU in 2006, among other things, ExxonMobil has received consent to extend the facility’s lifetime until 2025.

The six new wells will be tied in to Balder FPU by being linked together with existing subsea wells on the field. The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has now granted ExxonMobil consent to utilise the expanded subsea facility.
