FERC to prepare Fourchon LNG EIS

The United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a notice it will prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Fourchon LNG project. 

The project involves construction and operation of facilities liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on Belle Pass, within Port Fourchon, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.

The terminal would be located on land leased from the Greater Laforche Port Commission. Fourchon LNG intends to use the terminal to liquefy, store, and deliver LNG to domestic LNG fueled marine vessels and LNG carriers for export to overseas markets.

The terminal would have a peak capacity of five million metric tonnes of LNG per annum (MTPA).

FERC said that the notice opens the scoping process during which the commission will gather input from the public and interested agencies on the project.

Comments are to be submitted on or before December 6, FERC said.

Fourchon LNG, a part of Energy World Group plans to develop the terminal in two phases with the goal of the first phase is to have two million metric tons of LNG annual production capacity, with the second phase planned to bring the facility to its peak production capacity of 5 mtpa.
