Ferguson Marine Splashes New LNG-Fuelled Ferry

UK-based Ferguson Marine Engineering Limited (FMEL) launched the first LNG-fuelled ferry designed and constructed in the UK on November 21.

The MV Glen Sannox, which hit the water at the Ferguson shipyard in Port Glasgow, is the first of two vessels ordered by Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL).

Construction on the 102-metre vessel started in 2016 with delivery to CMAL scheduled to take place in the winter of 2018/19.

The environmentally-friendly, vehicle passenger ferry is planned to be operated on the Ardrossan to Brodick route, trasporting up to 1,000 passengers and 127 cars.

“As this is the first ferry in the UK capable of being run on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and marine gas oil, not only has this been an extremely exciting and ambitious project for both FMEL and CMAL, but it has been an extremely complex one as well,” Jim McColl, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Clyde Blowers Capital, said.
