First STS Cranes for DCT Gdansk New Terminal

STS Cranes for DCT Gdansk New Terminal

The first batch of STS cranes, destined for T2 operations, has arrived at the newly built second berth of DCT Gdansk terminal.

This arrival heralds the forthcoming finalization of one of the largest investment projects in Pomeranian history.

The new 650m long deep-water berth will be equipped with 5 STS cranes, delivered by Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd.

Following the arrival, the elements of two cranes were unloaded from the ship with the third crane expected to enter the port on May 12th 2016. The final two cranes are scheduled for delivery in August.

According to Michał Biernacki, T2 project manager, the current level of progress is approx. 65% of the total investment. “The next step will be the erection of delivered cranes and positioning them on the crane rails,” said Michał Biernacki.

The contract for the design and construction of a new berth and the adjacent container stacking yards at the DCT Gdansk (Deepwater Container Terminal Gdansk) was awarded to BESIX Group in October 2014. Only few months later, the Belgian company began with the construction of a new deep-water quay in Gdansk’s Northern Port.

Completion of this project with an investment amounting to EUR 200 million which is financed by the consortium of 7 banks is scheduled for the third quarter of 2016.
