Five things you need to know about the Technical Sessions on Decommissioning

During OEEC 2016 we will have two Technical Sessions on Decommissioning. We’re bringing you five things you need to know.

1. Decommissioning within offshore energy is a highly complex and and technical part of the industry. In the future we may see more structures becoming redundant and being taken out of service. This covers oil and gas as well as offshore wind decommissioning. 2. Technical Session number one is on: Decommissioning: Status and regulations. This session presents rules and regulations in decommissioning, the latest decommissioning figures and recent experiences in oil and decommissioning projects. Organized in cooperation with Association of Dutch Suppliers in the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry (IRO) and Decom North Sea. This session will be moderated by Roger Esson, Chief Executive, Decom North Sea and includes the following speakers: Rene van der Meer, Project Controls Manager from ENGIE, Peter Cameron, Director of Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy, Professor of International Energy Law and Policy, University of Dundee, Tim Eley, Business Development of Osbit and a speaker from Oceaneering.

3. Technical Session number two in on: Collaboration and cost efficiency. The decommission of offshore installations is both a cost burden (to operators) and a potential job and profit machine (to contractors and service providers). Nowadays, it is even more essential that different stakeholders work together to cut costs. This session will present how costs can be cut when stakeholders work together with recent experiences as examples and is organized in cooperation with the Association of Dutch Suppliers in the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry (IRO) and Decom North Sea. Roger Esson, Chief Executive at Decom North Sea will moderate the session and speakers include: Mark Stephen, Senior Technical Authority at Proserv, Christopher Hay, Region Product Line Manager- Well Abandonment Europe & Caspian from Weatherford and Euan Stephen, RIS Manager at Baker Hughes.
