Fluxys: Gas Consumption in Belgium Hits Another Record

As the cold weather continues, gas consumption records in Belgium are falling in rapid succession.

Last Thursday, the country’s natural gas consumption hit 1,131 GWh, beating the previous record set on 8 January 2010 by more than 5%.

However, that new record was bested the very next day with consumption of 1,164 GWh, only to be broken again on Tuesday, 7 February with 1,180 GWh, according to Fluxys.

These records are due mainly to consumption by the public distribution network, which distributes gas to homes and businesses.

On the record-breaking days, Fluxys transmitted 8 times more gas for public distribution than on the hottest day in 2011.
