FortisBC seeking new supply deals for Tilbury LNG plant

FortisBC said it is looking to find new customers for its Tilbury LNG facility following the termination of its supply contract with Hawaiian Electric Companies (HECO).

Hawaiian Electric withdrew its application to the Hawaiian Public Utilities Commission for approval of LNG supply agreement with Fortis Hawaii Energy, following the dismissal of its merger with NextEra Energy.

FortisBC said in its statement it has turned to discussions “with a number of potential export customers.”

To remind, Fortis had previously agreed a 20-year deal with Hawaii Electric for the supply 800,000 metric tons of LNG per year from its Tilbury LNG facility in Delta, British Columbia.

The Tilbury LNG facility, which is currently undergoing a CA$400-million expansion is expected to be commissioned by early next year.
