Forums for NNMREC's Project to Be Held in August (USA)

During the month of August, three public forums will be held in Oregon to discuss the final phase of Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center’s (NNMREC) Pacific Marine Energy Center, a “grid connected” wave energy testing facility.

According to Oregonstate.edu, this center will help experts investigate which types of wave energy technologies are most effective in different conditions and for various purposes.

The Pacific Marine Energy Center will be a complement to the Ocean Sentinel, a mobile wave energy testing system developed by OSU that’s already nearing completion and will soon begin operation.

NNMREC still needs funds for detailed studies and design work, and is therefore waiting to receive the final approval for U.S. Department of Energy’s $4 million.

The forums will have a goal of finding an appropriate place for the facility. The communities being considered are Newport, Reedsport, Coos Bay, and Camp Rilea near Warrenton.
