Four People Die in Tanker Blast

Four people have died in an explosion that occurred on Monday on board a Pertamina-owned tanker while undergoing repairs at Belawan Port in North Sumatra.

Three victims died on the spot, while the fourth worker died in a hospital succumbing to fatal injuries.

Pertamina spokesman Brasto Galih Nugroho confirmed to the Jakarata Post that the tanker was owned by the national oil and gas company.

The tanker in question has been identified as 17,957 dwt Indonesia-flagged Palu Sipat, built in 2000.

The cause of the explosion is yet to be determined.

Pertamina has not yet replied to emails sent by World Maritime News seeking comment.
