Fourchon LNG seeks DOE export approval

Fourchon LNG has applied to the US Department of Energy (DOE) for a license to export liquefied natural gas from its proposed $800 million facility in Louisiana.

Fourchon LNG, a part of Energy World Group, is seeking an authorization to export domestically produced LNG up to the equivalent of 260 billion cubic feet of natural gas per year for 30 years to countries with a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the US and for 20 years to any countries without an FTA.

The company seeks an authorization commencing on the earlier of the date of first export or seven years from the date the authorization is issued, according to a DOE notice.

Fourchon LNG plans to develop the terminal in two phases with the goal of the first phase is to have two million metric tons of LNG annual production capacity.

The second phase is expected to expand the capacity to a total of five million tons per year.

The planned terminal would include up to ten liquefaction trains, pre-treatment facilities and two LNG storage tanks with 88,000 cubic meters storage capacity each.
