Update: LNG terminal strikes to continue until Friday, Elengy says

(Updated with a statement by Elengy to say that the three LNG terminals will likely remain closed until Friday)

France’s three LNG import terminals are likely to remain closed until Friday as workers are protesting due to proposed labor reforms, according to the terminal operator, Elengy.

Elengy’s three LNG terminals have been closed since May 24 with no loading operations and no send-out to the French gas grid.

The company operates the Montoir-de-Bretagne LNG terminal on the French Atlantic coast and Fos Tonkin and Fos Cavaou on the shores of the Mediterranean.

CGT union workers at Elengy voted on Friday to extend their strikes until Monday. Earlier on Monday, an Elengy spokeswoman told LNG World News that the strikes “could be reconducted“.

According to the latest information posted on Elengy’s website, due to the strike, there will be “no send-out and no unloading operations until 03/06/2016 06:00 a.m., unless otherwise notified“.

France has been hit by a wave of strikes, just weeks before the Euro 2016 football tournament, aimed at forcing President Francois Hollande’s government to withdraw proposed new labor market rules.

The government is under pressure to find a solution to its standoff on the labour reform with France’s largest workers union, CGT, ahead of the June 10 start of the Euro football championship, which the union has threatened to disrupt, according to Reuters.

The hardline CGT union has organised street protests, train strikes and refinery blockades to pressure the government to scrap reform plans.
