Freire Shipyard to Build Oceanographic Vessel for Saudi Arabia

Vigo-based Freire Shipyard has secured a contract for the construction of a 43-meter oceanographic vessel, ordered by a Technology Center in Saudi Arabia.

According to the company, the vessel will be very similar to the RV Janan delivered to Qatar University in 2011, but it will be adapted to the needs of the new owner, who will operate the vessel in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea waters.

The design particularly takes into consideration operational efficiency, low emissions, crew comfort and strong seakeeping capabilities.

Prior to this contract, Freire Shipyard was also commissioned with the design of the vessel, which according to the company is at a very advanced stage and will allow the startĀ of steel cutting in the next ten days.

The value of the contract has not been announced.
