Fujitsu, Trident to Develop Telecommunications Network for WA

Fujitsu Australia Limited (Fujitsu) and Trident Subsea Cable System Pty Ltd (Trident) announce that they have entered into a working agreement to develop and agree arrangements and associated commercial detail for the design and delivery of a state-of-the-art fibre telecommunications network between Perth, the Pilbara and into South East Asia.

It is both parties’ intent that Fujitsu will become a strategic delivery partner within Trident’s operations for the proposed underwater South East Asia link to connect Perth, via Onslow in the Pilbara and Jakarta in Indonesia, to Singapore. The new network is expected to boost competitive telecommunications connectivity in WA and in particular the Pilbara Region.

The Pilbara and North West Shelf areas boast some of the world’s largest resource industry operations and capital expenditure projects. Each project has extensive infrastructure and telecommunications needs. The $400 million fibre optic network project will build Australian efficiency in the highly competitive global oil, gas and resources market by meeting the substantial demand for resilient, cost-effective, high volume data transmission.

Mike Foster, Chief Executive Officer of Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand, said “We are delighted to be working as the head contractor in a mutually beneficial relationship with Trident on this strategically important project for Western Australia. This high capacity, high availability network will drive technology innovation throughout the region enabling Australia to remain competitive in the global Oil and Gas and Resources market. The project will underpin ongoing community development initiatives in Healthcare, Education and Agriculture across the Pilbara.”

Mark de Kock, Chief Executive Officer of Trident, said “We are pleased to be working with Fujitsu on this strategic initiative. Fujitsu brings to the partnership an enviable reputation in IT and telecommunications systems integration and a strong commitment to the advancement of Western Australia. This initiative will provide much needed connectivity to the North West of Australia and boost employment for ICT professionals in Western Australia.”
