Furetank Rederi Newbuilds to Be Supplied by Bomin Linde LNG

Swedish shipowner Furetank Rederi signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Germany-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplier Bomin Linde LNG for the supply of LNG in the Baltic Sea region on October 15, 2016.

According to the LOI, Bomin Linde LNG will supply Furetank Rederi newbuildings with its new LNG bunker supply vessel. The tankers will be supplied ship-to-ship in ports and potentially offshore by using DP2 equipment.

The four LNG-fuelled newbuildings were ordered by Fuertank Rederi and its partners from the Gothenburg-based Gothia Tanker Alliance in 2015. Scheduled for commissioning in late 2018 and early 2019, the four 16,300 dwt vessels are currently under construction at China’s Avic Dingheng Shipyard.

Furthermore, the commissioning of Bomin Linde LNG’s Klaipeda-based supply vessel, which is said to be the largest of its kind to date, is scheduled for late 2018.

Additionally, the companies agreed to jointly explore the possibility of introducing LNG in Lightering Areas of the Baltic Sea.

Lightering Areas are designated zones which allow for offshore bunkering outside port boundaries.
