Norwegian Minister of Finance Siv Jensen visited Aker BP’s Valhall field center in the North Sea on Tuesday, August 15.

The Norwegian E&P player reported via social media that the Minister was accompanied by the State Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy Ingvil Smines Tybring-Gjedde and selected members of the press.

Since its inception in 1982, over one billion barrels have been produced from the Aker BP-operated field. The one billionth barrel of oil from Valhall was produced in January this year.

Valhall’s oil and gas is produced from chalk reservoirs sitting 2,500 meters below the seabed in the southern part of the North Sea. It consists of a process and production platform, a drilling platform, and an accommodation platform.

Today, the Valhall complex consists of six separate steel platforms connected by footbridges. Production capacity for oil is 120,000 barrels per day with an average daily production level of about 45,000 barrels of oil equivalents per day during 2016. Valhall also has a gas handling capacity of four million standard cubic meters per day.

Aker BP added that activity and investment levels in the field were still high and that it aims to produce an additional 500 million barrels by 2050.

During the visit, Minister Jensen emphasized the importance of the oil industry to the Norwegian society.
