GALLERY: SPT Offshore installs wellhead platform on Ophir field

Dutch contractor SPT Offshore has completed the installation of the wellhead platform on the Ophir oil field offshore Malaysia.

SPT said on Wednesday that the installation of the jacket began on April 9 while the boat-landing was lifted on the next day.

The topside was lifted and placed on the jacket on April 11, completing this three-lift offshore operation within 72 hours.

SPT Offshore was chosen for the detailed design of the suction pile foundation, design supervision of the jacket, and full transportation and installation of the Ophir wellhead platform back in December 2015.

The platform is based on SPT Offshore’s solution consisting of a tri-legged jacket with an integrated suction pile foundation.

The Ophir oil field is being developed via three production wells, a wellhead platform, and a floating production storage and offload (FPSO) vessel.

Located offshore Peninsular Malaysia in Block PM 305, the field is being developed under a Risk Service Contract (RSC) granted in 2014 to Ophir Production Sdn Bhd (OPSB), a joint venture company between Octanex, Scomi Energy Services, and Vestigo Petroleum.

In February 2017, a donor vessel for conversion into an FPSO for use on the Ophir field was secured and the conversion work was entrusted to MTC Engineering (MTCE), a Malaysian oil and gas marine contractor.

The vessel will be connected to the Ophir platform via a flexible 8” pipeline and is contracted to be at the field for three years, with a one-year extension option.
