Gas Leaks from Statoil’s Asgard Subsea Template

A gas leak was detected on Friday night from a subsea template at the Statoil’s Asgard field.

The gas leak in the Norwegian Sea field occurred during a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) operation preparing for a well intervention, Statoil’s spokesperson said in an email statement.

Production from the wells at the subsea template was shut down, while the rest of the Asgard field runs as normal, the spokesperson added.

The Åsgard field ranks among the largest developments on the NCS, embracing a total of 63 production and injection wells drilled through 19 subsea templates.

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has launched an investigation of the incident.
