Gaz-System Says Gas Imports to Poland Continue without Disruption

Polish gas transmission operator GAZ-SYSTEM said that the deliveries of imported natural gas to Poland are carried out in full as per the volumes nominated by PGNiG S.A.

At the same time, due to the expected extremely low temperatures, PGNiG SA advised GAZ-SYSTEM SA. of an immediate need to mobilise the mandatory gas stocks, which would significantly increase the natural gas supply to the transmission system from Mogilno UGS and enable the satisfaction of dynamically growing demand for gas.

In response, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. informed PGNiG S.A. of the necessity to introduce commercial reductions in accordance with the provisions of the Act on stocks of crude oil, petroleum products and natural gas, the principles of proceeding in circumstances of a threat to the fuel security of the State and disruption on the petroleum market, and requested the supplier to indicate the customers to be affected by such reductions and the corresponding level. The prior introduction of commercial reductions is a precondition to the mobilisation of the mandatory stocks of natural gas held in underground gas storage facilities.

The need for reductions under commercial agreements has arisen due to the expected increase in the demand for high-methane natural gas to a level exceeding 70 million cu.m per day and the risk of imbalance in the transmission system.  Accordingly, commercial reductions of natural gas supply have been introduced by PGNiG S.A. with an effect from 31 January 2012 for Zakłady Chemiczne Police S.A., and from 1 February for PKN Orlen S.A. and Zakłady Azotowe Puławy S.A.
