GE wins Tangguh LNG Train 3 equipment order

GE Oil & Gas said it has been awarded a contract to supply gas turbine-driven compressors for a third natural gas liquefaction train for the Tangguh LNG expansion project. 

The components of the turbo compressor strings supplied by GE Oil & Gas will be manufactured at GE facilities in Greenville, South Carolina, USA and Florence, Italy, where the train will by assembled and load tested, GE said in a statement on Wednesday.

GE has already supplied the equipment for the initial two liquefaction trains at the facility.

New equipment will be ready for shipment to Indonesia in mid-2018, GE said.

The company added that it will also supply heat recovery steam generator for each of the two string, the low pressure/medium pressure mixed refrigerant (MR) string and the propane/high-pressure MR string.

The Tangguh facility in the Papua Barat province of Indonesia is being expanded to increase the LNG production by a further 3.8 million tons per annum, bringing total plant capacity to 11.4 mtpa.

The final investment decision to build a third train at the facility has been reached at the beginning of July, with BP, the operator of the project saying that first production from the third train is expected in 2020.

Other partners in the Tangguh production sharing contract are MI Berau (16.30%), CNOOC Muturi (13.90%), Nippon Oil Exploration (Berau) (12.23%), KG Berau Petroleum and KG Wiriagar Petroleum Ltd (10.00%), Indonesia Natural Gas Resources Muturi (7.35%), and Talisman Wiriagar Overseas (3.06%).
