Germany GL RC Expert Honored with IEC 1906 Award

Kimon Argyriadis, Head of Research and Development at GL Renewables Certification (GL RC), has been honoured with the IEC 1906 Award. The prize is awarded annually by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) to experts around the world whose work is fundamental to the commission.

Kimon Argyriadis received the award in recognition of his broad technical expertise and devotion to furthering the wind industry. Over the last two decades, he has been involved in the development of many of the TC88 committee’s standards, including 61400-1, -3-1, -3-2. In addition, he was one of the founding members of the marine energy committees and has led the German shadow committee, DKE K385 on ocean energy since its inception.

“We are very proud of Kimon’s achievements and engagement within the IEC committees,” explains Mike Woebbeking, Vice President and Head of Certification Body at GL Renewables Certification. ”He is one of the main drivers in developing the international standards and certification processes which support the needs of the global renewable energy industry. All his colleagues in TC88 as well as the German National Committee would like to thank him for his long standing service.”

Kimon Argyriadis is the Head of GL RC’s Research and Development department. He joined the GL Group in 1994 and has been involved in the certification of wind turbines and the development of guidelines and standards in the field of wind and marine energy for almost 20 years.
