Global Wind Service Appoints MHI Vestas’ First CEO to Its Board of Directors

Jens Tommerup, the former CEO of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, has joined the board of directors at Global Wind Service (GWS).

Tommerup will also be engaged as an adviser for various companies advised by Fred. Olsen & Co., in addition to his new position as a board member.

Lars Bo Petersen, CEO of Global Wind Service, said: “Jens is a strong wind industry profile and he has a thorough under-standing of the market we are operating in. His experience from the OEM perspective and industry as a whole will be very valuable for Global Wind Service and our clients. There is no doubt that Jens can support us, delivering on our growth strategy.”

“I find the history, entrepreneurial spirit and strong knowledge base of Global Wind Service appealing and I am looking forward to working closely with the board and management of GWS,” Tommerup said.

Jens Tommerup held the CEO position at MHI Vestas since the establishment of the offshore wind joint venture between Mitsubishi Heavy Industry (MHI) and Vestas in April 2014. He stepped down in April of this year, in accordance with the joint venture agreement’s principle of changing its leadership every four years, with Philippe Kavafyan appointed to the position.

Global Wind Service was established in January 2008. The following year, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier acquired majority holding in the company.

At the beginning of 2018, GWS celebrated its tenth birthday and stated that it had significantly expanded its capabilities within onshore and offshore installations and service over the last decade. The company took part in the first offshore projects in German and UK waters, and worked on the installation of America’s first offshore wind turbines at Block Island in 2016.
