Goa Shipyard Participates in Regional Workshop on SLPEs

A one day Regional Workshop on State Level Public Enterprises (SLPEs), organized by Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Govt of India in association with Goa Shipyard Limited, was held at International Centre, Goa on 17 May 2013.

 The Workshop was aimed at providing a common platform for sharing Best Practices amongst State Level Public Enterprises (SLPEs) and Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). Besides, apprising the participants about the latest development in the public sector both nationally and internationally as well as facilitating the development of managerial capacity in the State Owned Enterprises (SOW).

The Workshop was graced by Dr Nitish SenGupta, Chairman BRPSE, Shri O P Rawat, Secretary Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Govt of India and Shri Ravi Mathur Secretary, Department of Disinvestment, Govt of India. Shri Ashok Sinha, Joint Secretary DPE, RAdm.Vineet Bakhshi, VSM, Chairman & Managing Director GSL, Dr Sharat Kumar, Economic Advisor DPE and other senior officials of the Central Govt were also present at the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nitish SenGupta, said that in the changed economic scenario, SLPEs need to be encouraged to be business oriented and adopt good corporate governance practice as followed in CPSEs. Asserting that there is a great scope to improve the performance of SLPEs in states / UTs, Dr SenGupta said SLPEs may also get listed on the Capital market and raise resources for their expansion plans.

Shri O P Rawat called upon the SLPEs to adopt MoU system on the lines of the Central Government in order to improve their performance.

RAdm.Vineet Bakhshi said amid the welcoming address, that the workshop would facilitate and empower SLPEs to rationalize and energise their functioning and help them to take their organisations to new levels. Shri Ravi Mathur spoke about the process of listing companies and the Government of India’s aim to make available the wealth of the PSEs by way of their shares to the citizens of the country.

Representatives from SLPEs from Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Goa , Daman & Diu also attended the workshop.
