Spain’s Gondan Shipyard has begun construction of a sail training vessel that the yard is building for the British Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC).

Gondan Lays Keel for MSSC's Sail Training Vessel

The keel laying ceremony for the vessel was held on Thursday 10 April at Gondan’s Figueras Shipyard (Castropol).

With a length overall of 32m and a beam of 7.36m the vessel can accommodate 24 cadets as trainees, in voyages from six to fourteen days.

The new ship will be in service for the next 40 years, ensuring that young people can continue to enjoy incredible sailing opportunities through which they can learn valuable life skills as they pull together as a team to circumnavigate Britain’s coastal waters, as well as practical sailing and navigational skills.

Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for 2015.
