Greek Catamaran Ferry Runs Aground off Tinos

A Greek catamaran ferry was safely evacuated with no reported injuries to its 253 passengers and crew after running aground off  the island of Tinos in the Aegean Sea on Sunday, the Hellenic Coast Guard reports.

The 1999-built Flying Cat 4 ran aground after reportedly missing the entrance to the Port of Tinos due to thick fog.

The catamaran was refloated by tugboats later that day and escorted to the Port of Tinos.

The subsequent inspection showed no structural damage, and the Flying Cat 4 departed the port and sailed to Perama where it arrived in the early hours today.

The Flying Cat 4 is operated by Hellenic Seaways. The catamaran is 55 meters long, with a capacity to carry 438 passengers, and a maximum speed of 42 knots.
