Hammonia Grenada – Youngest Ever Boxship Sold for Scrap?

The 2010-built Hammonia Grenada has become the youngest containership sold for demolition, according to data provided by VesselsValue.

The Panamax boxship, owned by German company Hammonia Reederei, was sold for USD 315/ldt (leight displacement) and sent to an unknown ship recycling yard.

The 4,256 TEU ship was built by Chinese shipbuilder Jiangsu New Yangzijiang.

Market value of Hammonia Grenada stands at USD 6.64 million, above the demolition value which amounts to USD 5.68 million, VesselsValue’s data shows.

The previous record was held by the 2009-built containership India Rickmers, which was reportedly sent for demolition by Singapore’s Rickmers Marine Trust in November 2016.

The seven-year-old India Rickmers was valued just above the scap at USD 5.87 million. In 2016, the ship’s value declined 62 percent.
