Hellenic Cables Wins Mayflower Wind Inter-Array Cable Contract

Hellenic Cables has secured a contract to supply inter-array cables for the Mayflower Wind project off the coast of Massachusetts, U.S.

Under the agreement with Semco Maritime, Hellenic Cables is in charge of the design, supply and storage of circa 300km of 66kV, XLPE insulated submarine inter-array cables that will connect the project’s turbines to its offshore substation.

The cables will be manufactured at the company’s submarine cable production facility in Corinth, Greece, over an extended period.

Continuous manufacturing is expected to be completed at the end of 2023, with the final installation scheduled for around 2025.

To remind, Semco Maritime recently secured a contract in a joint venture with Bladt Industries to fabricate and deliver the offshore substation for Mayflower Wind.

Mayflower Wind Energy LLC, a joint venture of Shell New Energies US and EDPR Offshore North America, was chosen in 2019 to develop its 804MW offshore wind project.

The offshore wind farm is expected to be commissioned in 2025 at the site more than 20 miles south of Nantucket.

Hellenic Cables recently established its presence in the U.S. offshore wind market with the establishment of the wholly-owned subsidiary Hellenic Cables America Inc.
