‘Here Comes The Sun’ Joins the Amels Fleet

Amels launched Here Comes The Sun, the first yacht in the Limited Edition (LE) 272 series. The first 83-metres, and the largest yacht built by Amels to date, was towed by two tugs, from drydock to the outfitting quay on the 30 June.

Montkaj, launched in 1995, was previously the largest Amels yacht, boasting a length of 78 metres. The flagship of the AMELS Limited Editions range is scheduled for delivery by the end of this year, in exact accordance with contractual planning.

The LE272 concept brings together effectively all of Amels expertise in design, construction, engineering, systems and materials. The exterior and interior styling on Here comes The Sun was done by Tim Heywood and Winch Design.

The Limited Edition family comprises six basic designs, ranging from 55 to 83 metres. Amels Limited Edition yachts have the advantage of being built on a proven platform, whilst at the same time maintaining the attractiveness of a full-custom yacht: freedom in the interior design and exterior styling. A decade after the introduction of this philosophy, Amels have successfully delivered more than 20 LEs.

Although having a sleek and streamlined appearance, Here Comes The Sun, the first-born LE 272, is a large-volume yacht with a gross tonnage of 2,827. Commissioned by a repeat Amels client, she features a unique color combination, which enhances the subtlety of the exterior lines. Her six decks feature more than 1,400 square metres of interior in total. Using two Caterpillar 3516C main engines, rated at 2,350 kW each, the ship can achieve a maximum speed of 17 knots.

On board, her layout features seven luxurious guest staterooms for 14 passengers, and an owner’s suite for two passengers. Additionally, the vessel accommodates a crew of 26 and a captain, spread over twelve double berth and two single berth cabins.

The foredeck presents a Touch-and-Go helipad, while the owner’s deck has a massive 300 square metres of space. The outside decks amount to more than 900 square metres of space. The beach club, for example, comes with a grand bar, sauna, steam room, and a watersports room that houses two eleven meter tenders. The super yacht also boasts its own cinema, and an array of both indoor and outdoor entertainment features, including two pools and two fold-down platforms at the beach club.

Built at the Damen shipyard in Galati, Romania, the hull arrived in Vlissingen early 2015. Since that moment, around 100 people on average have been working on a daily basis on the finishing. Amels, part of the Damen Shipyards Group, are currently building six new yachts and the yard is also busy with the refitting of two existing yachts. With so much work taking place, the company currently employs approximately 900 people, of which around 200 are permanent employees.
