Damage assessment is underway at India’s Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) struck by the raging cyclone Hudhud on Sunday that caused havoc across Visakhapatnam on the east coast of India.

“Most of the high-rise roofs of the workshops, dry dock, hull shop and pre-fabrication shops in the shipyard were blown off and the equipment was badly damaged. Many vehicles were damaged in the shipyard and the situation was similar in the HSL employees’ colony in the vicinity,”
the Hindu quoted a HSL press release.

In addition, the employees’ accommodation facilities have been severely damaged, however, according to HSL, all employees are accounted for and safe.

Activities are being taken to return to normal operation, yard officials said.

Some 400,000 people have been affected by the cyclone now known to have killed 24 people, BBC reported.
