Hoegh LNG opens Colombia office to support FSRU contract

Norway-based Höegh LNG said it has opened an office in Cartagena, Colombia to support its contract with Sociedad Portuaria El Cayao (SPEC).

Colombia, the country largely situated in the northwest of South America is expected to join the club of worldwide LNG importing nations in the fourth quarter of this year.

To remind, Höegh LNG signed a contract in 2014 with SPEC to provide a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for a new LNG import terminal in Cartagena, on the Atlantic coast of Colombia.

The FSRU contract is for twenty years, but includes options for SPEC to reduce the term to five, ten or fifteen years. SPEC will confirm the initial contract term before the start of operations, according to Höegh LNG.

Colombia will import the chilled fuel for power generation via the 170.000 cbm Höegh Grace FSRU, with a regas capacity of 500 mmscf/d.

Höegh Grace was delivered from South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries on 31 March, and commenced operations under an intermediate charter.

“Höegh Grace is currently employed as an LNG carrier under a contract with Trafigura and she is due to arrive Cartagena during the third quarter and commence commercial operations in the fourth quarter this year,” a Höegh LNG spokeswoman told LNG World News.

Höegh LNG has a fleet of eight FSRUs and three LNG carriers, with three FSRUs under construction. The company aims to own twelve FSRUs by 2019.
