Van der Velden® Marine Systems present at NorShipping

Van der Velden® Marine Systems will feature its latest developments at NorShipping 2007 which will be held on 12 – 15 June 2007, in Oslo, Norway. The booth of Van der Velden Barkemeyer (the Seagoing vessels division of Van der Velden Marine Systems) is situated in Hall D2 at stand number 17. Highlights of its presentation will include the EPS™ silent thruster, a BARKE® rudder model and a TIMON rudder model.

EPS™ thruster
Winner of the DAME Award at METS 2005 and the 2006 Dutch Maritime Innovation Award, the silent EPS™ thruster represents a breakthrough in the fields of noise levels, low weight, space saving and comfort. Owners and naval architects also benefit in terms of power-performance, robustness and environmental friendliness.
The EPS™ is available in five inner diameters (450, 550, 650, 800, 1050) and 12 different power ratings (from 22 to 295 kW). A compact retractable version is also available, designed to suit the specific needs of sailing yachts.

BARKE® rudder
The key driver behind the BARKE® rudder is its innovative high sophisticated progressive operating rudder movement high lift design, offering both unsurpassed manoeuvring and course keeping performance as well as smooth operation comfort. The flap operation linkage system of the BARKE® rudder is contained in fully enclosed grease lubricated housing. This results in minimum wear on the linkage components and eliminates the risk of sand entry or the mechanical effects of contact with floating objects or ice. An overload protection system is provided to prevent the main rudder jamming.

TIMON rudder
This well known flap-type rudder has a slide-bar flap linkage. It is the perfect solution for excellent manoeuvrability. Thanks to the flap-type principle, the TIMON rudder has a high maximum lift that results in a first class manoeuvring performance. The simple slide-bar flap linkage is easy to maintain and construct, so this manoeuvrability comes at a competitive price. The slim profile design ensures that the drag is low.

Latest technologies
The seagoing vessels division is implementing the latest rudder and steering gear technologies. To further distinguish our products, the Fish tail rudder is now called the Van der Velden® MASTER rudder, and the XRA rudder has been christened the Van der Velden® ATLANTIC rudder.

Headway
At the exhibition the latest issue of Van der Velden’s own magazine, Headway, is available. This magazine (number 4) is filled with interesting product information and projects in which Van der Velden® Marine Systems participated.
